The Reckoner is Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute’s official student-run publication, with over eighty dedicated contributors each year. Publishing news, editorial, and creative writing pieces, as well as student artwork and photography, The Reckoner distributes content both online and in person through quarterly print editions. In The Reckoner’s debut year, 2011, it was awarded the Toronto Star High School Newspaper Award’s first-place titles for Best Electronic Newspaper, Best Electronic Layout and Design, Best Critical Writing, and Best Editorial Writing. In its second year, 2012, The Reckoner published its first print issue, distributing 2000 copies of newsprint throughout the school. The Reckoner continues to receive enthusiastic responses from the school community and remains an invaluable resource for student expression.
