How do I finish university without crippling debt? - :(
As a fellow high school student, I also experience the horrific realization that thousands of dollars will soon be spent on my education. While this fate may seem inevitable, there are many ways you can prepare to tackle these costs. Begin by discussing possible options with your parents to get an idea on what price ranges would be affordable, and consider making a budget to save up for university. Refer to guidance counselors and research different post-secondary programs to find affordable schools, student loan programs, and other ways to decrease tuition costs. Scholarships, for example, are a great resource. Seek out any grants, bursaries, or awards that you may qualify for. Even if success seems unlikely, put in your best effort—chances are, others will think similarly, and taking action to apply can be the difference between crippling debt and debt. Finally, try to save up with a part-time or summer job. If you have friends who work, ask them about job openings or recommendations. Planning ahead can make a significant difference in tuition costs, as intimidating as they may be.
How can I talk to others without being super awkward? - help
I think this question just proves that most people are awkward—probably just as awkward as you are. It’s very easy for me to answer with the typical “be bold, don’t worry” sentiment, but as an introvert, I happen to also linger on the sidelines of trying and working up the courage to talk and not pretend to scroll through Instagram. Maybe you could see if anyone around you is doing the same—after all, no one expects you to become a bubbly extrovert, and a small wave might go a long way. There’s no need to approach a large group of people when you could just introduce yourself to that person who is also on their phone beside you. Ask them basic questions like their name, favourite TV show, some books they would recommend, and hopefully there will be some overlap in interests. Be polite, compliment others, and hopefully you will have a new friend by the end of it!
