‘Carton’ Footprint

By: cindycream |

By now, you’ve probably heard how ‘climate change’ is a real ‘thing’, and not just some crackpot theory. How it’s not going to happen in Someplace, sometime in the Future, but is happening Here, Right Now. But frankly, you just don’t care about all that. And I think you’re justified in not caring. I mean, has anyone in the history of time ever cared about anything that didn’t affect them in some way or the other?

Let’s pretend you’re a selfish individual. You don’t care about how every year, global temperatures are going up by a significant degree. How eating beef on a daily basis is actually more damaging to the environment than driving to work every day. You don’t care about your carbon footprint and how it’s affecting the planet. You don’t care about any of that stuff because it doesn’t matter, at least not Now.

And truth be told, I can’t argue with that. Why would you care about news from Far Away Land and Tomorrow when you have no reason to do so? The only things that are concrete and that really matter are Right Now, and Here. But the problem is, by not caring about what’s going to happen Tomorrow in Far Away Land, you’re hurting yourself. And it’s not that you’re hurting the future you, the you who lives in Far Away Land, you’re hurting the present you—the you reading this article. Because Far Away Land doesn’t exist. It’s all Here. And Tomorrow? Hate to break it to you, but you overslept. It’s Right Now.

Scary thought, isn’t it? This is probably the part where I should tell you how you have nothing to worry about and pitch my business plan and all that, but sadly, it really is too late. Goodbye.

Too edgy? I know. Turns out, I do have a solution. It’s not for the People or your Children or the Environment though. It’s for you. Recycling is pretty annoying. There’s a reason trash is called trash, am I right? But recycling isn’t about Far Away Land or Tomorrow, as you now know. It’s an investment. It’s like putting stuff you don’t need Right Now in a carton for when you do need it (a couple of minutes later). And when there’s nothing left because none of this stuff ever really mattered, you’ll be thankful for the carton.

After all, it’s all that you’ll have.
