Screaming Silent Screams- Jessica Zhu

Screaming Silent Screams

I know a place where the sun’s warmth cannot reach

Where the light is cold

Throwing the sharp angles of frozen stone into perspective

Oblong shadows seeking to drown in one another

Casting the world into darkness

I know a place where the world stands still

As if frozen in sorrow

The rows of stone unfeeling

All motion stopped in this quiet place

Unaffected by its ever-changing surroundings

I know a place that ignores its surroundings

Stuck in time

Unmoved by the cries of those who knelt

Among the dew-covered grass in the early hours of morning

And stood silently in the snow

I know a place that silently observes those whose screams

Cannot be heard

Regrets drowning in the crowds of people passing by

Screaming screams that never leave the lips

Unable to turn back time

I know a place where you never wanted me to be

Where the light is cold

The rows of stone unfeeling

Among the dew-covered grass in the early hours of morning

Unable to turn back time
