In acknowledgment of Black History Month in February, the Black Student Association (BSA) organized a Black History Month assembly, which featured performances and highlighted black achievements. It was one of the many events and fundraisers the club puts on during the school year.

The Black Student Association is a club at MGCI centered around supporting the black community at Garneau. As President Nadiya Roach put it, “[it is] a safe place for people of colour to share their experiences inside and outside of MGCI.” Members are encouraged to speak about their experiences and discuss with club members issues that are important to them. The goal of the BSA is to help black students understand that “there is a community for them at MGCI.”

There are a wide range of ways members can get involved with the BSA. Club activities include planning for events such as Clubs Fair, hosting guest speakers, and discussing relevant social justice issues (ex. Black Lives Matter). To join the club, students just need to show up to meetings on Wednesdays in room 243.

Aside from Clubs Fair activities, assemblies, and delicious fundraisers, the BSA continues to plan exciting activities. The next event to look out for is “International Night”, which the club promises will be “a night to remember”, although they will reveal more toward the actual day. Nevertheless, there are always exciting and educational activities to look forward to with the BSA.
