Every Tuesday at lunch, Marc Garneau CI’s Darts Club gathers in room 205 to let loose and engage in friendly competitions. Founded in 2022 by Grade 12 Student Eric Tang, the Darts Club serves as a safe space to hang out at lunch and throw darts. Members can participate in amiable tournaments and practice their dart technique. At the end of each semester, students’ “high scores” and “bullseye” points are accumulated, and the top 3 victors are rewarded with a dart monkey plush and other dart trinkets.

Leaderboards with the top players’ points are updated weekly and posted on Instagram. When playing, three darts are thrown during each round, and any points over 60 can be added to the high-score leaderboard. A dart that lands on the red bullseye is awarded 2 points, and any dart that lands on the green bullseye is worth one point. This semester, new regulations were added to the Bullseye Leaderboard. A player who lands a Triple (T) 20, T19, T18, Double (D) 20, D18, and D16 is awarded five points. Three points are given to players who land T17, D12, D10, and D8, and 2 points are given to players who land a T16.

During two monthly meetings, the club hosts a Knockout Championship Tournament, played in groups. With 6-7 players in a group, they take turns throwing three darts. Players shoot for bullseyes to determine the order, and the lowest scorer from each round is eliminated. The final 3 must face in a 6-dart shootout and the final 2 in a 9-dart shootout. First place is awarded 8 points; 2nd: 6 points; 3rd: 4 points, 4th: 2 points, 5/6/7: 1 point.

Not only does the MGCI Darts Club serve as a space for students to play and share their love of darts, but it also serves as a sanctuary to meet new people during lunches. When asked what the club meant to her, darts enthusiast and one of the club’s social media managers Shanza Qureshi said “It’s more than just a club, it’s about being a part of a community and a group of people who you share interests with!” Join Darts Club on Tuesday at lunch in Room 205 to join the competition, and follow their Instagram @mgci_darts to see weekly leaderboard posts.
