Promoting Web Development with MGCI Web Development Club

In an evolving digital age, hobbies such as coding and blogging are becoming more and more prominent. For four years, MGCI Web Development has helped students develop coding skills that allow them to code their own websites.
Under the current club President, Grant Ou, web development provides students with beginner friendly tutorials on website design through teaching HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Furthermore, the club provides tremendous resources for students, including allowing them to host their websites for free.
The club offers a variety of interactive activities—like Kahoot games with gift card prizes—for all students during regular meetings. Meetings take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, depending on the level of the meeting. For beginners, no coding experience is required to join. For intermediate members, meetings are tailored for more advanced concepts such as using JavaScript. Club leadership stresses the importance of welcoming new members. Club member Joy Zhou emphasized the benefits of the club: “Coding is really fun; I highly recommend it. I learned a lot and this club taught me a lot about HTML and I made my own website.”
Most recently, the club learned to create a website to suit business needs. Members were able to create an online retail store. Lecturers demonstrated important skills that students needed to know to build a website. Students would use those skills to build the online retail store. Lecturers would answer questions and also add in additional challenge features to make the website more complex.
New members who are interested in web development or who are looking for a place to hang out with their friends during lunch are welcome to check out the MGCI Web Development Club website at http://mgciwebdev.com/, on which there are project examples and information on how to join. Have fun coding!
